You may think your thoughts are your own. After all, you're an intelligent human being, right? Or, you may think that what you watch on TV, what you read, and so on, may sway you, but again, your thoughts are your own, aren't they, because, after all, you're an intelligent human being.
So explain to me what happens when you're on social media, please. You get there, you start reading people's posts (other people's thoughts), and if you're like most of us, you don't personally and truly know a great many of those people, but you have allowed their thoughts into your life via this medium. (And I'm not even talking about 'fake news' here). Think of it like allowing them to touch your brain, your heart, any part of you that you would normally not allow another to touch - unless you truly knew them (or "of" them) well
Perhaps these other people have great thoughts. Enlightening ones. Interesting ones that teach you something. Or perhaps not. But how do you judge? And how do you know, after spending some time on this social media site or another, how much of what you are now thinking is a product of your own reasoned and critical process, as opposed to something you've sucked up from the web?
The answer is, you can't know. At least not until you do some of that reasoned and critical thinking. And generally that means sitting by yourself and well ... thinking. Perhaps doing some research to fill in some gaps, but the thinking should be your own as opposed to being a product of the daily bombardment of others' thoughts.
