Having a Winning Hand

My part Viennese grandmother taught me how to play solitaire at a very young age. I still have her original cards, well-worn and tiny, as some of her games required two packs, and they had to fit on the gleaming Biedermeier table (that she very generously bequeathed to me), where she played. As I grew competent, she taught me new games that required higher and higher skill sets and more sophisticated strategy and reasoning. I absolutely loved playing them.

So now, with my laptop, mobile and tablet, I occasionally play solitaire on one of those devices, although it's never anywhere near as entertaining because many of the games are very simple, and those that are less so, are restricted to whatever is available on that device and none are nearly as wicked as the ones she taught me so very long ago.

However, yesterday I decided to have a game on my new tablet, and as I had not yet done so before, I went to the 'Settings' in order to ensure it would play as I like it to, and much to my amazement, it offered as one of the possibilities: 'Deal a Winning Hand'. Indeed! A winning hand, no less. That of course implies, that no matter what happens, I will win. What a concept! Far from pleasing me, it made me deplore a world that is hellbent on figuring out ways to have winning hands before any of the action takes place, and it made me pity  individuals who are born in such a world.

How will we - as a species - learn anything at all, if the cards are always stacked in our favor? Certainly, we may reap benefits and rewards easily, but how will they make us feel? I can imagine that you're thinking that you would feel absolutely wonderful and that you would love to climb to the top or win medals and prizes, or make a lot of money, or become famous just like that, but what you are not considering is that you would not have learned anything at all other than a concept of entitlement. You would feel no pride in your accomplishments. You would not learn that some things have to be achieved bit by bit, not immediately and that you might have to fall and pick yourself up again - and again, and again - before you finally brought yourself to that goal. You would not know the glorious ecstasy of satisfaction gained from a job well done, nor would you ever experience the strengthening of your back bone as you stood firm, chin high, shoulders back in order to try yet once again to see if this time you managed to have the winning hand ... but on your own terms and thanks to your own perseverance, planning, belief in your purpose and goal, and thanks to your ingenuity.

From the Description on Amazon: More exciting than any other kind of relationship you have ever known, spiritual partnership is a path, a Tao, available to you so that you may transform your life. Spiritual partnership becomes background music to daily life allowing you to enhance the process of your growth and evolution.

This ground-breaking book addresses:

• relationship patterns that hold you back from a truly fulfilled life
• the strong connection between sexuality and spiritual partnership
• communication leading to true connection & lasting transformation of your relationship

It is precisely at the problematic crossroads so often encountered in relationships that we are offered the opportunity to create a new foundation based on mutual complementarity rather than need; a free relationship between two people who want to be together, rather than two people who need to be together. Needing another, we are told, is the measure of love, but for a fully conscious individual nothing could be further from the truth. And therein lies part of the secret and healing power of spiritual partnerships.

Praise for The Tao of Spiritual Partnership

“All humans seek the illusive touch of another's Soul, which opens us to the sense of belonging to something bigger than the self. Dr. Kortsch has given us the true "tao" of relationship in this brilliant exploration of emotional tapestry. We will be grateful for this illumination of spiritual partnership for generations to come."
Chris Griscom: Spiritual Leader, Author

“Eloquently and comprehensive, showing how your primary love relationship may be a sacred vessel that transports you and your partner to a place of mutual healing and expansion.”

Robert Schwartz: Author of Your Soul’s Gift: The Healing Power of the Life You Planned Before You Were Born
