It's not a competition - not a question of being better than someone else. It's the realization that you can make a difference to your inner state in order that you feel marginally better, simply by making some different choices:
- are you aware of how you are feeling?
- are you aware of how that state came about?
- is it because of something someone did?
- a sad or painful memory?
- a failure to accomplish something?
- a mood?
- work?
- the weather?
- ill health?
- relationship difficulties?
- financial problems?
- all of the above announce themselves to you by the way you are feeling, and once you examine that feeling, you will generally find it came about through a series of thoughts
- now you have some choices to make:
- do you want to continue reinforcing the bad feeling?
- would you prefer to feel better?
- In the second case, you can now choose to focus your attention elsewhere - not- to distract yourself, but to shift your energy.
- you might focus on beauty and gratitude (see the many articles about these subjects here on the blog)
- by so doing you shift your energy
- you might focus on keeping your energy high
- by so doing you shift your energy
- This is the beginning
- Becoming aware now gently starts forming part of your daily life
- By making such choices you begin to also become aware of how much of your inner state of well-being lies in your own hands, and in particular, how much of that state of inner well-being lies in the choices you decide to make.
