Bio-Identical Hormones Improve Quality of Life for Baby Boomers

I've written a number of posts about the subject of bio-identical hormones, as well as spoken about them on my radio show (specifically, in the Sexuality Section).

Today's post is not so much to further extol the virtue of these hormones that - on a molecular level - totally replicate what we have in our bodies when we are young, but to point you to several bits of further research on the subject, should you wish to inform yourself.

An article had caught my eye yesterday, perhaps because so many of us know a number of women who have been through - or are still going through - the throes of breast cancer. That article: New Study Reveals Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy Reduces Breast Cancer Risk Compared to Standard HRT documents much important information about new findings about the manner in which bio-identical hormones have been proven to help prevent breast cancer:

"“A thorough review of the medical literature clearly supports the claim that bioidentical hormones have some distinctly different, often opposite, physiological effects to those of their synthetic hormones,” said Dr. Holtorf, whose practice treats more than 7,000 patients each year. “The medical literature demonstrates that bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is highly effective and carries a reduced, rather than an increased, risk of breast cancer and cardiovascular disease.” "

The article led me to the Holtorf Medical Group's website which also contains much interesting information for those of us who like to have a hand in our own health, and a groundbreaking review coauthored by Dr. Holtorf in a major medical journal regarding current controversies in endocrinology. The chapter discusses:
  • How standard thyroid tests miss the majority of patients with low thyroid and how to diagnose and treat such cases
  • The risk and benefits of the use of growth hormone and aging
  • The benefits of bioidentical hormones
  • The benefits of testosterone replacement in men and women

I've read it and highly recommend you do so as well. It's the quality of your life we're talking about...
