Do You Need A Change?

Life is not the way you imagined it when you were younger. Your job is not what you had hoped for. Your marriage, your children, your relationship with your parents, it's all more or less OK, but again, not what you had hoped for. And so you cast your eye about, wondering what you could do to create some change. Is it the job you need to change? Or perhaps you should take a vacation to some sun-drenched island or mega-city hopping with energy? Is the marriage really going to work, or maybe there's no going back, and you should have a chat with your spouse about deciding to end it once and for all.

Have you ever given any thought to the fact that perhaps what really needs changing is you? Not because there is something wrong with you, but because the way you view your world does not serve you? Perhaps you need to see things from another angle, another perspective. Perhaps you need to become more positive. Perhaps you need to enumerate the positive points of some of the people of whom you are despairing. Perhaps you need to cultivate some gratitude. Perhaps you need to become more conscious of your own inner self. perhaps you need to decide what you really want. Wanting a change does not simply mean that something in your external world needs to be modified. It may have much more to do with your internal world.

It doesn't mean change is not a good thing, because, as I have written extensively, change generally leads to growth. But if change is undertaken merely because what is out there is not pleasing to you and you have not yet taken a look inside, perhaps both aspects need to be examined. Akbarali Jetha wrote: Quite often we change jobs, friends, and spouses instead of ourselves.

Make sure that your changes are brought about for the right reasons.
