Finding the Sunshine In Your Life

Days can often appear to be grey. I was watching a film recently in which the protagonist, a young woman, was in the most spectacular landscape - a brilliantly azure beach with some boulders in remarkable formation jutting out of the sand - and she was absolutely oblivious to the feast of nature surrounding her. Her day was grey. Why? Because she was undergoing a very difficult emotional situation and so she paid scant if any attention at all to what was around her. She was not aware and she was most certainly not living in the present moment. She was living in her thoughts.

Many times after encouraging clients to pay greater attention to the beauty that surrounds them when they drive away from my office to whatever their destination may be, they return on the following visit and comment with what astonishment they realized what immense and wonderful beauty was there for them to see once they started consciously observing, instead of focusing on their thoughts.

So you see, on the basis of these two small examples, how much damage your thoughts do to you if you are not paying attention to being conscious. Yes: paying attention to being conscious. That is the only way you can live in the present, and if you live in the present, you will always be able to find beauty and sunshine in your life, no matter your outer circumstances, because by being aware, you can choose other thoughts, even if your name is Nelson Mandela, and you are spending 27 years of your life on a prison island. Choosing other thoughts gives you inner peace and inner freedom.

For much more about being conscious, about choosing your thoughts, and about using a state of continual awareness in order to enhance your inner well-being on all levels, have a look at my book Rewiring the Soul: Finding the Possible Self, available at Amazon as a paperback or e-book for Kindle and all Kindle applications.
